Interpreting Art and Chemistry in the Google Era

Chemists long ago co-opted centuries-old painting traditions for depicting 3D subjects in a 2D medium. Humans are accustomed to perceiving 3D cues in 2D information, but machines are not as adept and can misinterpret the 3D stereochemistry implied in a 2D depiction. A trip to the Barnes Foundation illustrates the issue.
